"On the Road" with the original florida kid

Hello again fellow truckstars! Week 18 is in the log books........or not........
and you're on the road with the original florida kid......
Grandma and the gang at the ranch all say "hey"................
KITCHEN TABLE TALKIN" -
We're all sittin' around the dinner table yakkin about stuff, so pull up a chair grab a cup of coffee and piece of Grandmas famous apple pie(American apples....) and let's see what's on everyones' mind.......
I don't know about you but I love new high tech stuff,(I would have much rather been born in the early 1700's, when America was a wild frontier, but I wasn't, so.........) particularly when it comes to multi-media communications.
What am I talking about? Well, the more I look into mobile internet, gps, and cell phone stuff - the more I realize I can stay on top of reception and transmission from the cab of my truck, and I'm not just talking about the Qual-Com, which by the way is being upgraded as a service(bout time......), but to ANY form of communication I need, including web-tv. Soon everyone is going online with tv broadcasts. Some already are.... CBS and all the major players - check out this link: http://www.findinternettv.com/ there are others but start with this one. What I'm getting at is this.....for the monthly fee of online mobile web access you can centralize ALL your stuff - tv, e-mail, research, weather alerts, routing, even web-phone(get a program,headset), you can even shop while on the road( at a rest area or truckstop.....) all of it on your laptop, and even download new release movies to watch. Make sure you get one with at least 1gig of memory and a dvd player with stereo speakers if poss., and for sure a mobile(pci) card slot. I looked on the web this morning entering "refurbished laptops" in search engines like Dogpile and what came up was amazing. Don't forget www.tigerdirect.com I just got the new catalog in the mail and they are having a really good sale on laptops. I'm looking into online, direct to pc gps truck routing accounts and software so I don't have to run a seperate gps unit suction cupped to my windshield, I hate that, the screens are so small and the good ones are $600 plus......(yeah, have a seat the doctor will be right with you.......) also check out this site - www.fwnetwork.com - look on the upper left you'll see the audio and multi-media link. There's a ton of stuff on this site............also Netflix says you can download to your pc, films to watch......cool.... and a co. Navteq has a service called Dial Directions - http://www.dialdirections.com/default.html - you can call for directions from any cell phone, it looks pretty good, check out their home page too - http://www.navteq.com/
I'm probably headed out on another boat haul run, it seems I've hit it off with the people in that end of trucking. I dress like a boater since I grew up in south florida and have been around boats and the ocean all my life, I live, when I'm here, 4 minutes from the beach in the north end of broward county and my younger brother is a well known boat captain in the area. It's lobster season, Barbie's bugging me to go on a dive to get her some....maybe a snapper or a grouper too....we'll see...I'd much rather jump over the side of the boat and chase em' down and shoot em' than stand there(fish that is.....)in the boat with a fishin' pole humming the theme song from Jeopardy for two hours.......
Of course I switch gears when I'm ranchin' it....jeans and boots and thick long sleeve shirts, and my shootin' iron.....Pup loves the ranch, he gets to run all over the place but I worry because there are lots of rattlers in the area, we find snake skins, big ones, all over the place........he caught a squirrel(this is how dumb I am, I had to look up how to spell squirrel....) the other day, poor thing, the squrriel I mean.......so, after he got the taste of blood in his mouth, him and I had to have another alpha male "discussion".....I think he sees things my way again.........damn dog.......
Oh dear God, don't let Barbie or Grandma see you "training" the dog.....God help ya.......
While we're on the subject, don't forget about the ASPCA and The Humane Society if you want to help rescue animals of all kinds, these people do what most of us don't have time to do, and if you're lookin' for a critter they have just about everything you can think of......a lot of drivers have little dogs on the road with them......
Pup likes to drive so I have to fight him for the driver seat all the time.....damn dog.......Barbie lets him drive AND talk on his cell phone.......damn dog.........
I'm kinda sick of headlines and politics at the moment that's why I'm not talkin' about the mexican thing or the dumbass presidential candidates, or the price of fuel, or who just got elected head of a trucking co......I'm more worried how low per mile I'll have to go to haul the next load of boats....and how slow freight is going to be.....they call it belt tightening.............yeah..........

NASCAR - Jimmie Johnson took the checkered after a fierce shootout with Matt Kenseth. The last few laps of the Dickies 500 in Texas were the best I've seen in a long time, hope you saw it!! Jeff G. is going to have to push the pedal if he's going to stay on top in the points......is Tony Stewart on vacation??

He's 12 years old and wants to be a trucking detective when he grows up.....The adventure begins when Johnny sees a suspicious vehicle following them from a pickup in Miami, Fl.
Dad says it's nothin' but Johnny and Tommy think otherwise.......
