Springfield, MO - July 11, 2008 - Prime, inc. announces that three Prime drivers were top award winners at the Missouri Trucking Association’s Truck Driving Championships held recently at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Joplin, June 6 & 7. Awarded were:

  • DUANE GRIMME, with almost 12 years of experience, 1st place in the tank truck class
  • MICHAEL GANDEE, who’s driven almost 5 years, 1st place in the four axle class
  • CHAD DANIEL, a 2 1/2 year driver won the pre-inspection award for the highest score assuring that a vehicle is in safe and efficient operating condition before taking the road.
All first place winners will compete in their particular class of competition at the National Truck Driving Championships in August, to be held in Houston, Texas. The winning scores were based on personal interviews, an hour-long written examination, vehicle safety inspection and a field course featuring six precision driving problems simulating challenges a truck driver faces everyday.

Sponsored by the Missouri Motor Carriers Association and its Council of Safety Supervisors, the annual safe driving competition attracted 181 of the state's top truck drivers.

Prime’s Director of Safety, Don Lacy, explained the importance of the truck driving championships. “Truck Driving Championships have been held on a state and national level for over 50 years. These champions represent the best of the best. They allow drivers to compete with their fellow drivers in every aspect. To be a champion requires long hours of practice and study, not to mention extreme nerve control. We hold our own company competition, and to even compete in the State representing our company, they must win at this initial level.

Dave White, safety supervisor with Prime added, “The Missouri Truck Driving Championships is the pinnacle of the trucking industry for the State of Missouri.  The drivers who compete are the top drivers from their companies in the State of Missouri.  Drivers cannot have any accidents (preventable and non-preventable) in the last year, and many compete in their own company competitions to qualify for state competition.  The competition requires drivers to practice and study in order to perform well.  Drivers and their company officials enjoy the competition between each other.  The MMCA Truck Driving Championship shows which drivers are " the best of the best” in the State of Missouri.”
