CEO Receives Prestigious Award, Company Receives Special Designation
INDIANAPOLIS – July 21, 2008 - Celadon Trucking Services Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Celadon Group Inc. (NASDAQ: CLDN), has recently been honored twice by the American Heart Association (AHA) in connection with the company’s wellness program.
As a result of his vision and support for creating the ‘Highway 2 Health’ program, Celadon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Russell was recently presented with the AHA’s prestigious Cor Vitae award at the Heart of Gold Ball in Indianapolis. The occasion marked the first time that a recipient was selected from outside the medical community.
“We have hundreds of employees who have embraced the health initiatives that are the foundation of our Highway 2 Health program,” said Russell. “Accepting the Cor Vitae on their behalf is a tremendous honor.”
In addition to the Cor Vitae award, Celadon has also been designated by the AHA as a Gold-Level Fit-Friendly Company. The Fit-Friendly Companies Program was established by the AHA to encourage employers to meet certain criteria for supporting physical activity by employees, increasing healthy eating options at work, and promoting a wellness culture.
Created in August 2006, ‘Highway 2 Health’ is a voluntary program that encourages all Celadon employees to take a more proactive role in managing their overall well-being. There are several components, including the opportunity for employees to participate in health screenings that measures blood pressure, body mass, glucose and lipid profiles.
Those who participate receive a confidential report on the state of their health along with a plan of action to control problems. They also have access to an onsite medical team that can provide immediate care, medical consultations, and individual health coaching.
“We have truly improved the health of our employees,” said Russell. “In regard to weight loss alone, our administrative employees have lost over 2,500 pounds. We also have drivers who have brought down their individual weight by more than 100 pounds.”
